Occupational Therapy is a rehabilitation service covered under Medicare Part B that focuses on the individual and her or his ability to perform the everyday tasks required to live life. Our overall goal is to promote independence through use of strength and conditioning training, environmental modification recommendations, and daily routine adjustment recommendations.
Strength and Conditioning training- As we get older, we lose on on average 3-5% muscle mass each decade after the age of 30. Men will lose roughly 30% of their muscle mass in their lifetime. Muscle loss is a contributing factor to falls in older adults. Our solution to slowing muscle wasting is condition and strength training that is FUNctional. We prescribe exercises that are targeted at activities that are meaningful to the person.
Environmental Modifications recommendations- The heart of occupational therapy is accessibility. At Functional Living, we provide suggestions on how to make an environment safer and easier to navigate. Have plans of remodeling a bathroom or a kitchen? Functional Living is able to recommend equipment and appliances that would improve performance and participation. Our environmental modification recommendation service is forward thinking to ensure the design is appropriate for present and future use.
Daily Routine Adjustments- Sometimes after sustaining an injury or worsening of a condition, we are not able to perform tasks as we did before. Occupational therapy provides unique solutions for tasks that reduce fatigue and fall risk.
